I thought that I would use this entry as a brief family update. As you can tell by other blog posts, I have been spending time finding new dishes to cook and dabbling in sewing. I hadn't exactly meant this to be a cooking blog, but I really enjoy cooking and trying new things.
I think my cooking philosophy has really come through on my first few posts. I tend to use recipes as a source of inspiration, not necessarily the holy grail. I try to learn about the ingredients themselves (food network is my love) so when I have a recipe I can tweak it to my liking and my needs. If you know what the ingredients lend to the recipe, than you can really create it to be your own. I don't feel confident enough to dream up something yummy out of the blue, but I feel confident enough to exchange ingredients in order to make something to my liking, or to accommodate my pantry status. My goal is not to come off as a disorganized cook, but to show how I can change a recipe and still have it be yummy. I hope to add enough information to justify my choices.
As for sewing, I have begun to sew my first few diapers. I feel settled on a sizing for the diaper and I am still debating the layering of the water proof covering. I might try to beef it up to guarantee success. I want to prepare as much as I can now, since it will be easier to sew without a baby around, but I also worry that if I do it wrong, I will have wasted material. I will post some pictures when I am more confident.
Currently D is rebuilding the engine on his car. He has made great progress and hopefully it will continue to go smoothly. We have also made our first batch of beer. You can check out the status on our homebrewing blog. Other than that, I have a very wiggly little boy keeping a big smile on my face. I love knowing that he is there and growing everyday.
